Get to know Lani
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, Lani grew up in Kalihi Valley before moving to Pearl City, where she graduated from Pearl City High School. As the youngest of seven children born to hardworking immigrant parents from the Philippines, she learned early the importance of faith, family, humility, perseverance, integrity, and serving others. These values remain at the heart of who she is and how she cares for her clients today.
Lani earned bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Psychology from Rutgers University in New Jersey. After returning home to Hawaiʻi, she pursued graduate studies in Information Systems at Hawaiʻi Pacific University. Before entering the insurance industry, she built an accomplished career spanning accounting, technology, consulting, and federal service. Her experience included positions with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, Symantec Corporation, the Department of the Navy, and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. These roles strengthened her analytical skills, attention to detail, and commitment to helping others—qualities that continue to serve her Medicare clients well.
Lani earned her Hawaiʻi health insurance license in 2015 while working full-time as a federal employee. What began as an opportunity to help people quickly became a passion. After seeing how confusing and overwhelming Medicare could be for individuals and their families, she realized that this was where she was meant to be. In 2017, Lani left her federal career to dedicate herself full-time to helping Hawaiʻi’s Medicare beneficiaries.
Lani believes Medicare is about people, not policies. She takes the time to understand each client’s doctors, prescriptions, financial concerns, lifestyle, and healthcare goals before discussing their options. Her goal is to make Medicare easier to understand so every client can make an informed and confident decision that reflects their individual needs.
Her relationship with her clients does not end after enrollment. Lani remains available throughout the year to answer questions, assist with changes, and provide ongoing support through every stage of their Medicare journey. Whether meeting in person, over the phone, or by video conference, she makes it a priority to ensure that every client feels informed, respected, and genuinely cared for.
Lani is one of PBC’s most successful and highly regarded agents. She is deeply trusted and loved by her clients and colleagues alike—not only for her knowledge and professionalism, but also for her warmth, compassion, and willingness to go above and beyond. Her reputation reflects the qualities she brings to every relationship: compassion, knowledge, and trustworthiness. PBC is proud to have Lani represent our agency and the values we stand for.
Giving back to the community has always been important to Lani. She previously served as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Ka Makana at Hoakalei and has been involved with the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaiʻi and the Magsingal Association of Hawaiʻi. She continues to partner with physicians, healthcare providers, nonprofit groups, community organizations, and senior-serving organizations throughout Hawaiʻi to educate Medicare beneficiaries and connect them with valuable healthcare resources.
Lani is married to her husband, Russell Lum. Together, they enjoy quiet evenings at home, spending time with family and friends, and traveling to experience different cultures, architecture, and local cuisine. Japan holds a special place in their hearts because it is where Russell proposed to Lani in 2019. She also enjoys hiking, spending time outdoors, and making memories with the people she loves.
Whether someone is new to Medicare, preparing for retirement, already enrolled in a plan, or helping a loved one navigate the process, Lani is committed to being a trusted resource they can rely on. Her mission is simple: to educate, empower, and guide each person through Medicare with integrity, compassion, and personalized service. She considers it a privilege to help individuals and families make one of the most important healthcare decisions of their lives.
